OGUN LG POLLS: OGSIEC SEEKS SUPPORT OF NSCDC

  

In its effort to achieve a violence- free election, the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), has sought the support of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ogun State Command.


The Chairman, OGSIEC, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu who led a team from the Commission to the headquarters of the NSCDC, in Abeokuta said, there was need to engage security agents, as the Local Government (LG) polls draw nearer.

Osibodu who reiterated the Commission's resolve to conduct free, fair and credible polls, noted that it would be a benchmark in the history councils elections in Nigeria.

"The NSCDC is no doubt a result- oriented Corps. We cannot speak of law enforcement agency in Nigeria without mentioning you, and I believe with your support, we will have peaceful Local Government elections", Osibodu added.

Also speaking, a Commissioner in the Commission, Mrs. Gbemi Onasanya, while appreciating the NSCDC for the warm reception accorded it, said adequate security must be put in place in achieving the set goals and objectives of the Commission, describing the Corps and other sister agencies, as partner in progress to deliver credible elections.

Responding, the Commandant of the Corps, Hameed Abodurin, said the command was determined to ensure security of lives and property, in accordance with the mandate that established it, assuring of the Corps’ backing before, during and after the upcoming LG elections in the State.

Commandant Hameed, hinted that the Corps would further engage the Commission on security tips, as well as organise trainings for its personnel on election process, calling on the residents to continue to be law-abiding and security conscious at all time.

He commended the OGSIEC team for taking a bold step through the programmes and activities being organised since its inauguration, noting that the command would leave no stone unturned towards the successful implementation of the elections.

"I want to assure the Commission that we will not rest on our oars, in order to contribute to the peaceful conduct of the Local Government elections in Ogun State’’, he said.
