TECH-PORTAL FOR OGUN ARTISANS COMING
In a bid to align with global trends and produce craftsmen who are technologically certified, the Ogun State Government is set to establish a tech-portal for artisans across the State for easy accessibility by interested industrial concerns.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa stated this during the inauguration of executives of Coalition of Ogun Technicians, Artisans and Craftsmen (COSTAC), at the June 12 Cultural center, Kuto, Abeokuta.
Prof. Odemuyiwa said the coalition was borne out of the urge to get all artisans and technicians certified and registered, saying accredited training centers would be created and manned by them to train students.
He assured that Technical Colleges across the State would be revamped, while calling on stakeholders to support and invest in the technical education sector by setting up programmes for skills upgrading and rebranding.
The Special Adviser stated that the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration realised the important role of artisans as the largest employer of labour, who make meaningful contributions to economic growth and commended them for their brilliant execution of State-owned projects given them in the past.
In his goodwill message, a special guest, Hon. Kehinde Odeleye, enjoined the artisans to be united and encourage more youths on skill acquisition programme, appreciating the State government for giving priority to technical and vocational education.
In his remark, the Chairman, COSTAC, Mr. Taiwo Lasisi lauded the State government for bringing them together under a platform, imploring government to assist aged artisans and technicians in securing Federal Government’s micro pension plan for informal workers.
Speaking in the same vein, a female refrigerator technician, Mrs. Adeola Sonde, commended the State government for giving them a voice, urging that issues on tax levied on artisans and easier ways of accessing loans and grants should be looked into.
