The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has declared that it does not have the authority to accommodate de-registered political parties in the forthcoming Local Government elections in the State.
Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu who made this known while fielding questions from OGIS correspondent in Abeokuta, stated that the list of the political parties that would be participating in the Local Government elections was gotten from INEC, directing political parties not included, to contact the national electoral umpire.
Osibodu maintained that OGSIEC had no business with the de-registered political parties and would not act beyond its powers, saying, "the list we are using for the elections was the one given to us by INEC and until it says otherwise, we can’t do anything".
Speaking on the level of preparedness for the coming polls, the OGSIEC boss said arrangements were in top gear to ensure hitch free election, as it was working with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders, assuring that logistics would be taking care of.
He called on people to come out in their numbers to perform their civic responsibility, shun violence, promising that their votes would count.
