 OGSG TRAINS OFFICERS ON BIOMETRICS FOR IMPROVED SALARY, PENSION PAYMENT

The Ogun State Government, through the Bureau of Information Technology (BIT) in conjunction with IQ System Solutions (IQSS), has trained officers dealing with payroll and pension in five government agencies to effectively link captured biometrics of workforce and pensioners, in order to upgrade and automate payment process.

Speaking during the training which also focused on enterprise biometric integrated solution aimed at creating new applications solution in Abeokuta, Director in the Bureau, Mrs. Olatundun Adekunte, said the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Office of the Accountant-General, Local Government Service Commission, as well as State and Local Government Pensions were selected for the training.

 Adekunte noted that the training would enable participants capture data of staff and pensioners to make their verification easy, know the present staff in the State and pensioners that are still alive.

 She added that the biometric solution would detect error in the payment process and ensure proper registration and verification of new entrants coming into the system through the new upgraded solution, saying the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration was committed to automated payment of staff salaries and pensions.

"The biometric solution is to capture data of staff and pensioners in the State to make their verification easy, know the present staff in the State and the pensioners that are still alive", she said.

In her remark, the Project Management Consultant, IQSS, Mrs. Noimot Alabi who commended the State government for the initiative, described it as a right step in the right direction, saying it would avoid physical movement of files, as payment would be carried out in line with best global practice.

Also speaking, the Director of Payroll in the State, Mr. Abiodun Ogundeji, said the biometric solution was not a new thing in the system, but an upgrade from what obtained in the past, noting that government would be able to account for the number of existing staff, in order to avoid ghost workers.
