Lagos king, Buhari Oloto dies 10 months after disputed installation
The 80-year-old died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
He was installed on September 2, 2020 as the Oba of Iguruland in Aguda, Surulere.
For decades, the late monarch was well known in the Lagos social scene.
The deceased’s installation last year as the first Oba of Iguru was disputed.
Some indigenes, led by Mutalubi Ayinde Kadiri, condemned his recognition by the Lagos State Government.
They pointed out that the Appeal Court had issued an injunction on August 30 against the installation.
Another native, Owolabi Irawo, a member of the Iguru Royal family, insisted that Lagos authorities erred in enthroning Oloto.
“It is surprising to see Lagos State Government crown our opponent, Buhari Oloto. We have been on the case for over 14 years, the matter is in the Appeal Court”, he said.
