 How Armed Thugs Invaded Ogun Community, Injured Two Villagers

The police in Ogun State have begun investigations into the circumstances that surrounded the attack on some residents of Oba­da Oko last weekend.

Two residents of the community were attacked by gun-wielding hoodlums, numbering over 100, who reportedly invaded the town with over 50 motor­cycles.

It was gathered that one of the residents, Sikiru Kayode, narrowly escaped death as the hoodlums used different dangerous weapons on him before he was rescued and taken to Obada Police Station.

A resident of the village, Agbaje Taoheed, while nar­rating the incident  said, “it was warlike when the hood­lums invaded the village on Saturday. I have never witnessed anything like that in this area.”

“There were about 50 motorcycles with each mo­torcycle carrying at least three people with many of them armed with cutlass­es, broken bottles, sticks and iron rods.”

The resident also add­ed, “A pregnant woman on sighting these hoodlums fainted and had to be re­suscitated by the villagers.

“One of the villagers, Sikiru Kayode, was at­tacked with machete, iron and sticks, while other peo­ple scampered into differ­ent directions.”

Our source also added that “they all escaped on their motorbikes, when they noticed that Kayode was lifeless, thinking that he was dead.”

The source identified the leaders of the rampag­ing hoodlums as Spider, Ijalo, Shola Solebo, Dudu, Waliu and Ojodu.

He also alleged that the hoodlums were invited by a group of people, whom he identified as Folorun­so, Awopeju Olunide, Abu Aliamin and Ojodu.

“One of the bricklay­ers, who were working on one of the buildings in the town said Solebo pointed a gun at him and threatened to shoot him.”

Another resident of the village, who pleaded an­onymity, while speaking with our correspondent said, “The hoodlums are suspected land grabbers, who are working for some village heads around Oba­da Oko.”

Efforts to get the reac­tion of the image maker in charge of the state po­lice command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, failed as calls to his mobile phone number were not answered.

A police source at Oba­da Police Station, who confirmed the incident said, “It is true that we are investigating a case of at­tack by hoodlums in that community.”

The police source added, “One of those who were in­jured was brought to the station for police report, before he was rushed to the hospital.”
