Covid-19 vaccination: Civil servants denied access to offices in Abuja

Security agents on Wednesday began enforcing the compulsory Covid-19 vaccine policy of the Presidential steering committee on Covid-19 as they barred unvaccinated civil servants from entering their offices at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja.

Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC) were deployed to enforce compliance at the Federal Secretariat.

Civil servants and members of the public who are unable to provide proof of vaccination and a negative Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) at the entrance to the Head of Service building were turned back.

Scores of angered civil servants blame the government of discriminatory enforcement of compulsory vaccination.

Before now, the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 announced that civil servants who are unable to show proof of vaccination and negative PCR tests would not be allowed to access government buildings from December 1, 2021.

The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria however asked the Federal Government to extend the deadline till March next year, for the compulsory vaccination of civil servants, a move which the PSC had described as “impossible”.
