OGUN PAYS ONE BILLION NAIRA GRATUITY TO 340 PENSIONERS

In fulfilment of its determination to make life more meaningful for Local Government pensioners in the state, the Governor Dapo Abiodun led administration has disbursed one billion naira to Local Government retirees between April and December, 2021.

The Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Mrs. Olubukola Adeniregun, who made this declaration during an interactive session with some members of Local Government retirees in her office at Oke Mosan, Abeokuta,  said that the desire of  Governor Dapo Abiodun was to ensure that the senior citizens enjoy a healthy and prosperous life in retirement.

She explained that government has released funds in three tranches for the payment of part of the backlog of gratuity, saying that the first tranche was over N229m of which 56 Local Government retirees, and 46 retired primary school teachers benefited. 

According to her, the second tranche, was over N248m which was disbursed to 37 Local Government retirees, and 46 retired primary school teachers and finally, the sum of over N485m was released for the 3rd Batch out of which 79 Local Government retirees and 76 retired primary school teachers were paid.

She said one of the purposes of the interactive session was to enlighten the pensioners on the process of gratuity payment, explaining that the date of enlistment of a pensioner determines the year of his or her gratuity payment. 

Adeniregun further explained that the present Government was commited to the welfare of senior citizens, by paying over one billion naira to 13,673 pensioners on its payroll on monthly basis, and as of date no pensioner was owed monthly pensions in Ogun State, noting that the accrued pensions were paid along with gratuity and next of kins of deceased pensioners also received theirs. 

The Permanent Secretary, hinted that names of pensioners with medical challenges had been forwarded to the Governor for approval.
