OGSG ASSURES CONTINUED PARTNERSHIP TO ACHIEVE EDUCATIONAL STANDARD

The Ogun State Government says it will not relent in its collaborative effort with stakeholders in the education sector, to develop its teaching workforce and use the free education programme to eradicate illiteracy.

The Commissioner made this known in Abeokuta at the closing ceremony of Teach for Nigeria (TFN) stakeholder’s engagement, revealing that the present administration had recorded giant strides in the sector through support of the private sector.

Arigbabu, represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo added that the government had done massive renovation in schools, provided furniture items, training and re-training of teachers, employment of teachers through the Ogun TEACH scheme and many more, noting that education is the bedrock of any meaningful development and catalyst for effecting fundamental positive change in any society.

“The present administration will continue to accord priority to the provision of free and qualitative education. I, therefore, enjoined TFN to keep up with the spirit of developing teachers’ skills. I want to assure you of our continued unflinching support”, Arigbabu said.

He appreciated TFN for creating a platform and consistently imparting the young fellows who saw teaching as a calling and not a profession, positing that the aim of teaching was not only to transmit information but to also transform learners from passive recipients of other people’s knowledge to active constructors of general knowledge.

In their goodwill messages, the Chairman, State Universal Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, represented by the Permanent member 2, Hon. Isiaka Aderounmu and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Investment, Mr. Oluola Aikulola, respectively gave kudos to TFN for developing the education sector, and the passion to improve the younger ones and growing adults with strategic teaching and learning techniques.

In her remarks, the Chief Executive Officer, Teach for Nigeria, Miss Folawe Omikunle revealed that the programme was berthed to train and develop teachers, saying the vision of TFN was to ensure that children have access to quality and excellent education.
