Two Calabar Hotel Workers Die In Their Sleep

 

Two hotel workers on Saturday night died in a hotel facility (names withheld) in Calabar Municipality LGA of Cross River State.

Investigation revealed that lifeless bodies of the workers were discovered in a room.

Findings revealed that deceased: 18 -year-old Joseph Enagu Onya, an indigene of Yala Nkum community, lkom LGA and Daniel Asuatang Mathew from Akwa Ibom State were said to have been found with foams on their mouths.

Joseph’s body was seen with traces of blood on him and on the ground in the room where they were found.

It was however learnt that the deceased until their death were working in the hotel in the last seven months without any issue.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity stated that the duo cooked on Saturday, adding that  the next morning their bodies were discovered.

The source said the only thing that could have caused the deceased death would have been generator fumes if there was no electricity supply, adding that none of the generating plants was turned on.

A family source blamed the management of the hotel for failing to rush the deceased to hospital for medical attention.

The source stated, “After they discovered that they were dead, why didn’t they immediately inform the police.

“Whatever the hotel is trying to hide will be brought to limelight as we are ready to go the whole nine yards to know what happened to our son. There is no amount of money they can use to cover this up,” the source added.

Reacting to the incident, the Cross River State  Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene who confirmed  the incident said that it was an unfortunate incident.

Ugbo assured that the police would do everything to get to the bottom of the matter.

“Preliminary investigation has been carried out , samples have also been taken , the commissioner of police have also ordered that the case be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department , CID, for further investigation, their remains would be taken for post mortem, we will get to the root.

“We are leaving no stone unturned in this matter, we are also have the manager of the hotel in custody and we have sealed off the facility as we speak,” he said.

In his remarks the hotelier’s younger brother identified as Prince, who was contacted to speak on the issue, declined making comment claiming not to be in the right frame of mind.
