Owo Massacre: Olota Sends Condolence Message To Olowo of Owo, Equip Ota Amotekun With Hilux Van, Motorcycle

The Olota of Ota and Olofin Apesin-Olode, HM Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege, has on Tuesday, sent a condolence message to the Olowo of Owo, HRM Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye over the recent terrorist attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, leading to the massacre of at least fifty people.

In a letter that is personally signed by the Olota, he condoled with Oba Ogunoye, families of the victims, St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo and Ondo state Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu on behalf of Ogun state Awori Obas over the ugly incidence, describing it as ‘most unfortunate and barbaric’.

“On behalf of Ogun State Awori Obas, I offer my heartfelt condolences to your Majesty, Ondo State Governor, the victims, their families, entire congregation of the Church as well as the people of Ondo State.

Kabiyesi, We condemn in the strongest terms, the massacre of innocent worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, which claimed lives of many, including women and children. It is indeed most unfortunate and barbaric”. The letter reads in part.

Oba Adeyemi, however, prayed God to heal the deep wounds caused by the terrorist attack while also urging the Security agencies to deploy every means available in finding the culprits and bringing them to justice.

As one of the measures to contain such security breaches and making his homestead devoid of insecurity, Oba Professor Adeyemi, also on Tuesday, donated a Hilux van and a Motorcycle to Amotekun Corps in Ota.

Earlier addressing the combined team of Amotekun and Nigerian Police Force at the palace of Olota of Ota, the Chairman, Olota Security Committee and Seriki of Ota, High Chief Taofeeq Olanrewaju Bashorun, said that the magnanimity of Olota did not just start today as he had before now, gifted operational vehicles to the Nigerian Navy in Ota, among several other communal interventions.

He said that Olota, being a royal father that is proactive, did not want to wait until an ugly incidence happen in his town before he swings into action, rather, he prepares ahead for unforseen circustances, hence the need for the hilux vehicle and the motorcycle being given to Amotekun.

During a short speech by Oba Adeyemi before the presentation, he said he was taken aback by the ugly terrorist attack on innocent worshippers in Owo, describing it as the ‘most unfortunate’. He said that as a royal father, who understands that government can not do it all, he decided to give the vehicles to Amotekun, being a local security outfit that is closest to his people.

He advised them to make judicious use of the vehicle to reduce insecurity in Nigeria, most especially, Ogun state.

Receiving the vehicles on behalf of Amotekun State Commandant, David Ajibola Akinremi, Deputy State Commandant, Olukayode Moses Aina, said his joy knows no bound as he had looked forward to receiving such great news in time past. He however, heaped praises on Olota for looking in the direction of Amotekun in that mobility has reduced their efficiency before now, while assuring that the vehicles would aid their performance.

Recall that gunmen suspected to be Fulani Herders, on Sunday, invaded St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo in Ondo state, killing well over fifty worshippers and leaving not less than forty people severly injured.

Among those that attended the presentation were; the Ajana of Ijana, Ota, HRH Oba Clement Olusegun Akinyemi, Onikosi of Osi, Ota, HRH Oba Sikiru Anibire, Onikotun of Otun, Ota, HRH Oba AbdulAkeem Odunaro, Balogun of Ota, High Chief Idowu Balogun, Oluwo of Itoki, Ota, High Chief Ganiu Dada, the Divisional Police Officer of Sango, Ota Police Division, SP Saleh Dahiru, DSS and Amotekun Operatives.
