The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has reportedly detained three of its officials for allegedly releasing seized containers. The officials were arrested at the Lagos port few days ago and detained at the Central Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the service.
According to our correspondent, the officials released unauthorised containers from the port.
Security sources said the said containers were arrested and detained on the instruction of the Controller General of the service, Col. Hameed Ali (Retd) to stop illicit imports into the country.
Recall that the Custom Boss had recently announced that over 2,000 officials of the service had been sacked since he took over the leadership of the service for various offences and dereliction of duty.
The container was said to be loaded with dangerous tomato pastes.
