Lagos workers jubilant over salary increase, parley JNC over outstanding labour matters
Workers in Lagos State have expressed delight over the salary increase announced by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
They commended the governor for demonstrating leadership by starting the process of salary increments for workers, as well as granting approval for the distribution of cars to directors in the service.
This, as the Lagos State Government, through the Office of Establishments and Training, recently held a Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) meeting to resolve outstanding labour issues, among which are staff-related career development and welfare matters in the state public service.
Chairman of Council and Permanent Secretary, Office of Establishments and Training, Dr. Biodun Onayele, who presided over the meeting, disclosed that the meeting provided a platform to sustain the industrial harmony, already being enjoyed in the State.
He said it also demonstrates willingness, on the part of the government to continue to interact and communicate on regular basis with the union leaders.
He expressed appreciation to the governor and the union leaders for their cooperation and support, thereby guaranteeing industrial peace and harmony.
The Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, of Local Government Service Commission, Abiodun Bamgboye, said: “Sanwo-Olu has just given the go-ahead to commence the process of salary increment for workers and also approved the distribution of official vehicles to directors in the state’s civil service.”
The co-Chairman of the Council, Olusegun Balogun, commended the governor for demonstrating leadership by starting the process of salary increment for workers, as well as granting approval for the distribution of cars to directors in the service.
He particularly appreciated the government for its cooperation in meeting workers’ demands whenever they are presented.
The contribution of delegates was premised on improving the welfare of the workforce of the state and driving improved service delivery.
