Protest trails alleged removal of deceased woman’s body parts in Ibadan hospital

Protest erupted in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital yesterday, over the alleged removal of parts of a deceased woman’s body in a hospital.

The deceased’s family had accused authorities of Ibadan Central Hospital of tampering and cutting off the flesh of their family member, an elderly woman who died in the hospital on Sunday.

It was gathered that an arrangement was made between the family and the hospital authorities, located in Ososami area of Ibadan, that the corpse would be taken to the mortuary on Monday.

However, when one of the deceased’s sons arrived at the hospital at about 5:00 a.m. to convey the corpse, he discovered that the body had been tampered with.

Her son alleged that flesh in her hand, head and some parts of her body had been cut off

He then raised the alarm that attracted other family members and members of the public.

This prompted other residents of the area to join the protest.

However, men of the Nigeria Police Force and Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) also known as Amotekun Corps were drafted to the hospital to prevent the breakdown of law and order.

Contacted, spokesperson for the State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, said some arrests had been made while the investigation was ongoing.

Osifeso said: ‘’On Monday, October 31, at about 0730hrs, upon receipt of a complaint by one Osayintolu Henry,’m’, son of the deceased, regarding the deposited corpse of his late mother, Boluade Racheal Osayintolu.

‘’The complainant alleged that his mother who had hitherto been taken to an undisclosed hospital facility in the metropolis for medical intervention on Sunday, October 30, 2022, died at the facility and was deposited at its morgue therein, only to find parts of her forehead and upper right arm flesh cut of from the body.

‘’Arrests have been made and investigation has since commenced with the deployment of ample police personnel to forestall possible occurrences of the breakdown of law and order.”
