Lagos financial digitalisation making progress’

The Lagos State government is making steady progress in its quest to attain full digitilisation of its financial processes since the process started some years ago, its Accountant-General/Permanent Secretary, State Treasury Office (STO), Dr. Abiodun Muritala, has said.

Muritala stated this yesterday when the Borno State Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Adamu Alhaji Lawan, led a delegation to Lagos to study and replicate the digitisation of its Financial Management Process.

Muritala noted the merits of the automation, and the role the Oracle software has played in easing financial transactions in the state.

A Deputy Director, Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Jimoh Wasiu: “In adopting IT, System Integration is one of the challenges to watch out for. This is important because every agency of government that works manually must be able to work on the system communicating with one another.”

Lawan said the Borno State Government had put in place some measures that would help the smooth take off of Modernisation of Financial and Data Management System (MOFIDAMS), the reason the Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, dispatched the team to Lagos.

Lawan called for adequate stakeholders engagement with political heads and sensitisation of Borno State public servants to embrace the initiative as it would save time and resources and boost efficiency.

A delegate, Maryam Y. Shehu, sought partnership with the Lagos State government, saying that the visit was not the first as earlier visits were made to under study the Lagos State Transport Management Agency (LASTMA) and Lagos Waste Management Agency (LAWMA).

She stated that the introduction of MOFIDAMS for Borno was as a result of an intervention of the European Union Trust Fund, through the World Bank, to enable the Borno State Government to deploy a robust Financial and Data Management System.

At the event were Mr. Tajudeen Mahmud, Director, Monitoring and Investigation, Mrs. Abisola Dina, Director, Treasury Operations, Mr. Folorunso Thomas, Director, Financial Information System, Mrs. Tifase, Director, Centralised Payroll and Data Validation and Mrs. Taiwo Adedeji of Treasury Operations Directorate.

Other delegates from Borno State the Permanent Secretary, Baba Bura Usman; Accountant- General, Babazanna AbdulKarim; Project Coordinator, MOFIDAMS, Umar Ali Ka’ana; Focal Person, MOFIDAMS, Shehu Yakubu Gana; Project Manager MOFIDAMS, Bulama Mulima; Procurement Officer, MOFIDAMS and Head, ICT, MOFIDAMS, Shamsudeen Mohammed.
