Tinubu suspends EFCC boss over ‘weighty allegations’

President Bola Tinubu has suspended AbdulRasheed Bawa as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Tinubu’s director of information, Willie Bassey, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Bassey stated that Bawa’s suspension follows “weighty” allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.
Bassey noted that the suspension was also to allow a proper investigation into his conduct while in office.
He also added that the president has directed Bawa to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the EFCC deputy governor.
“Mr. Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms,” Bassey said.
