Why I Strangled Student To Death – Murder Suspect

A murder suspect, Oke Loya has said he strangled a student writing the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) in the riverine area of Ondo State, Meretighan Timibra to death because he called him a mad man.

Loya was arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command for the death of the 17- year Timibra who was writing his examination at Arogbo axis of Ese-Odo Local Government Area of the state. Sources said that the deceased, Timibra, a student of Ijaw Nation High School in Arogbo – was attacked by the ‘mad man’ while writing his West Africa Examination Council (WAEC).

It was learnt that on Wednesday night, the enraged ‘madman’ found his way into the school premises after the students had allegedly mocked him. One of the eyewitnesses, who does not want his name in print said the students ran helter-skelter as the suspect forced his way into the classes where the students were writing their examination.

He added that Timibra who could not run fast was caught by the suspect who placed his head under his shoulder before strangling him to death.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, who confirmed the incident in a statement yesterday said the suspect has been arrested by the police.

The Police spokesperson said the Principal of Ijaw National High School reported that Loya who took shelter at the gate of the school during the rain strangled to death the JSS student.

Odunlami-Omisanya explained that the victim, who hails from Arogbo Ibe in EseOdo Local Government Area of the state, allegedly angered the suspect when he called him a mad man.

“On July 4, 2023, the Principal of Ijaw National High School came to the station and reported that one Oke Loya, aged 27, who took shelter at the school security gate during rain, strangled to death one Meretighan Timibra, 17, of Arogbo Ibe.

“The suspect who claimed the student called him a mad man, has been arrested and detained,” the police spokesman said. The police spokesperson said the suspect would be charged to court on completion of investigation.
