NLC Rejects FG’s N48,000 Minimum Wage Offer

NLC Rejects FG’s N48,000 Minimum Wage Offer

Members of the organised labour have expressed dismay over the federal government’s proposal to set the minimum wage for Nigerian workers at N48,000.

The Congress criticized both the government and the organised private sector for what they termed as “ridiculous offers” that they believe are a disgrace.

Despite the government’s offer of N48,000 and the organised private sector’s offer of N54,000, labour leaders rejected both proposals, stating that the government did not provide any data to support these offers.

The rejection came during a briefing at Labour House, where labour leaders voiced their disappointment and frustration. They emphasized the need for a more substantial increase in the minimum wage to address the challenges faced by Nigerian workers.

The organised labour’s stance highlights the ongoing struggle for fair wages and better working conditions in Nigeria. The rejection of the proposed minimum wage underscores the importance of meaningful dialogue and collaboration between the government, private sector, and labour unions to ensure fair and equitable treatment of workers.
