Ogun Monarch, Towulade of Akinale Is Dead

The Towulade of Akinale, Oba Dr. Olufemi Ogunleye, has joined his ancestors at the age of 79.

His passage was announced by the Owu Traditional Council in a statement signed by the Oganla of Owu, Hon. Johnson Olu-Fatoki, that the public relations guru died in a London hospital during a brief illness.

The late traditional ruler was an erudite journalist and legal practitioner in his lifetime and would have clocked 80 years in September.

Olu Fatoki said that the Council had missed one of the erudite monarchs in the Owu Kingdom.

He described Oba Ogunleye as “a peace-loving, progressive, and bridge-builder.”

Meanwhile, former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has described the passage of Oba Ogunleye as shocking and a great loss to the entire Owu land, Ogun State, and the country in general.

Obasanjo, in a reaction by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, said the news of Oba Ogunleye was shocking, having informed him about his travels some weeks ago in high spirits.

The former President, who is in South Africa for the second term inauguration ceremony of President Ramaphosa, said the people of Owu, Ogun State, and Nigeria as a whole would miss him for his resourcefulness and promotion of the cultural heritage of his homestead.
