How Sales Managers allegedly colluded to defraud employer of N10m

The Police at the Zone 2 Command, Lagos have arrested five Sales Managers with Polo Ralph Lauren Stores located at 27, Idowu Tailor Street, Victoria Island, Lagos and charged them before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly selling their employer’s goods valued at N10m and converted the proceeds to their use.

Police identified the defendants as Ariyo Barakat; Oyeyemi Oyebanjo; Omodolapo Abass; Oluwakemi Olantori and Oyindamola Fatoju.

Police alleged that the complainant uncovered the alleged fraud when he audited the account of the goods in the store.

Police further alleged that following the development, the complainant petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, AIG Durosimi Olatoye who gave a marching order to his men to arrest the defendants.

After an investigation by ASP Israel Akanbi and team, the defendants were charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court on a two count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

Police prosecuting Counsel, ASP Ibrahim Haruna told the Court that the defendants committed the offence between 5 January and 29 May, 2024 at 27 Idowu Tailor Street, Victoria Island and at Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

Haruna informed the court that the defendants betrayed the trust their employer reposed in them as Sales Managers,sold his goods valued at N10m and converted the proceeds to their use instead of remitting the money into their employer’s account.

He said the offences, the defendants committed were punishable under sections 411 and 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants,however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and Chief Magistrate, Mr Aka Bashorun granted them bail and adjourned the case till 18 July, 2024 for mention.
