Man stabs mother to death in Delta

A 23-year-old man has stabbed his 50-year-old mother to death at Obiaruku, Delta State.

The arrested suspect, who has been arrested by operatives of the Delta State Police Command, was simply identified as Samson.

He committed the murder on Wednesday at Jehovah Street, Obiedike, Obiaruku, it was gathered.

Sources said the suspect had earlier been sent to Asaba to learn a trade after he was through secondary school.

He was, however, sent back a few months later after allegedly hobnobbing with drug peddlers and intake of substances which affected his brain.

As a result, the young man was returned to his parents at Obiaruku where his mother sought local remedy to his unstable mind.

A neighbour said the mother of Samson went outside of the house at about 5:00 a.m. and saw her son smoking weed.

She confronted her son, urging him to quit the habit only for the angry son to dash into the house and return with a kitchen knife with which he stabbed the mother to death.

“At around 5 a.m., the mother came outside and saw her son, Samson, smoking. She confronted him, telling him it was too early. Perhaps she shouted at him.

“Then Samson went inside, brought out a knife, and stabbed his mother.

“The elder brother, who is a sickle cell patient, was the one who shouted, which made people enter the compound because the gate of the compound was still locked at the time,” the neighbour narrated.

The young man is said to have been addicted to drugs since his return from Asaba.

After stabbing his mother to death and until he was swooped on by the police operatives, Samson was said to be standing by the blood-soaked corpse of his mother firmly holding tight to the knife.

In a viral video, some neighbours, who stood afar off, were seen pleading with Samson, who was in boxers, to drop the knife.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, said he was yet to be briefed about the incident.
