Implementation of N70,000 goes with consequential adjustment  – Gov Yahaya

Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, addressing State House correspondents after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Friday

Governor Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has said that the implementation of the N70,000 new minimum wage has to go with the consequential adjustment.

The governor stated this at the weekend while speaking with State House correspondents after a meeting with the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Governor Yahaya, who said that a committee headed by his deputy was already in place for the implementation of the new minimum wage, further stated that because of the consequential adjustment, each state has to go with the process properly in order to get it right.

Asked how ready he was for the implementation of the new minimum wage, the governor said, “Most states have set up committees. In Gombe, we have a standing committee, which we had since 2020 and it is headed by the deputy governor.

“They are working with the labour unions and all other members to try to see that we get through, it’s a law, according to, Senate President.”

Further asked on the implementation in his state, he said, “Implementation normally has to go with consequential adjustment, and state has to go with the process properly so that we kick it and get it right.”

Recall that the life span of the old minimum wage of N30,000 expired on April 18, 2024 and it’s expected that the new minimum wage with the consequential adjustment would start by May.
