Nasarawa man commits suicide over wife’s alleged infidelity

A 38-year-old man identified as Gabriel Iliya Magaji of Masaka, Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, has reportedly taken his own life following suspicions of his wife’s alleged infidelity.

The incident was confirmed by the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Nansel Ramhan.

“On Monday, around 7 am, a report was lodged by a staff member of Crystal School Masaka at our office in Masaka Division. The report stated that an unidentified man was found hanging in one of the classrooms in Crystal School Masaka,” DSP Ramhan stated.

According to the PPRO, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately led a team to the scene, where they untied the deceased’s body and transported it to General Hospital, Mararaba. There, a doctor confirmed the death, and the body was deposited in the morgue.

Despite the allegations swirling around the cause of Magaji’s death, no suicide note was found at the scene. “The police have commenced an investigation to unravel the cause of his death,” DSP Ramhan said.

When questioned about rumours circulating that the man had taken his life due to discovering his wife’s infidelity with his friends, the PPRO added, “I cannot confirm the allegation until investigations are concluded.”

Meanwhile, social media posts have stirred further speculation. One post on Facebook claimed that Magaji ended his life after confronting his wife, who allegedly admitted that she slept with his friends in exchange for money because he was unable to provide for the family.

According to the post, the wife reportedly said, “His friends give me money after having sex with me, which I use to buy food that he and our three children eat.”

It was gathered that the tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many residents of Masaka expressing disbelief at the events leading to Magaji’s death.
