Lagos State Governor Appoints New Head of Onigbongbo Local Council

Lagos, Nigeria (11th November, 2024):

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has sworn in Rekiya Olufunke Hassan as the new chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), following the passing of the former chairman, Oladotun Olakanle.

At a solemn ceremony held at the State House, Alausa, the 44-year-old Hassan, who previously served as the council’s vice chairman and former supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services, took the oath of office to continue the late Olakanle’s legacy.

The event was attended by members of the State Executive Council, APC leadership, and key LCDA officials.

Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the back-to-back losses of two council leaders as a difficult period for the Onigbongbo community.

He praised the council’s resilience and emphasised the importance of continuity and good governance, which the state has maintained over the years.

“Today marks not only the continuation of governance and leadership but also the resilience of the Onigbongbo people,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“The passing of two successive chairmen was distressing, yet our commitment to the council remains unwavering. We will continue to move forward together and build on the legacies of those who served before.”

Sanwo-Olu encouraged residents and council officials to support Hassan, noting her vision, experience, and readiness to lead the LCDA into the future.

Addressing her new role, Hassan pledged to uphold her predecessor’s achievements and foster unity among council residents.

“I accept this honour and the responsibility it brings, with a commitment to serve my council diligently and make our party proud,” she said.

The Governor also urged the community to heal from recent losses and stay united, reinforcing that while leaders may come and go, progress and commitment to the people remain at the heart of governance.
