Many Residents Trapped As Multi-Storey Building Collapses In Lagos

A multi-storey building under construction on Oremeta Street in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State collapsed on Saturday morning, trapping an unspecified number of people beneath its rubble.

It was gathered that the collapsed structure reportedly housed the popular EqualRight Restaurant, on its ground floor, came down around 8am.

Witnesses say the incident caught both occupants and passersby completely off guard.

According to an eyewitness, the collapse was a disaster waiting to happen.

“Anyone who knows that building should know that it was a bomb waiting to explode,” the witness said. “I hardly go there to buy food because I was always scared the building would collapse while I’m there.”

Emergency response teams, including officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), swiftly arrived at the scene to commence rescue operations.

The total number of people trapped under the debris remains unknown as efforts to clear the site continue.

“Right now, we cannot ascertain how many people are trapped under the rubbles,” the eyewitness added. “But emergency responders have begun rescue operations.”
