Sanwo-Olu celebrates Lagos ex-First Lady, Abimbola Fashola at 60

Sanwo-Olu hails former First Lady Abimbola Fashola on her 60th birthday, praising her legacy of selfless service and women empowerment

 

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated the former First Lady of Lagos State, Dame Abimbola Fashola, as she marks her 60th birthday, describing her as an “Amazon”, a “selfless giver”, and a “compassionate leader”.

Dame Abimbola, the wife of former Lagos State Governor and ex-Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), turns 60 on Sunday.

In a tribute released on Saturday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu celebrated her impactful legacy and described her as a beacon of hope and positive energy.

“On behalf of my adorable wife, Ibijoke, the government and the people of Lagos State, I heartily congratulate Dame Abimbola Fashola, former First Lady and wife of the 13th Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN), on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee celebration,” the governor said.

He noted that Dame Fashola brought elegance and grace to her role as First Lady, using her platform to champion causes that improved the lives of Lagosians—particularly women and young people.

“As the Founder of Leadership Empowerment and Resource Network (LEARN), Dame Fashola impacted and transformed lives.

She is a selfless giver who is passionately committed to humanitarian services,” Sanwo-Olu said.

During her tenure as First Lady, Dame Fashola led advocacy efforts around women’s health, education, and youth empowerment.

Through the LEARN initiative, she provided educational support and life skills training to thousands of young Lagosians.

Sanwo-Olu highlighted the consistency of her contributions, even beyond public office, noting that every interaction with her radiates a drive for positive change and service to others.

“Dame Fashola used the Office of the First Lady to impact many lives by advocating for women’s health, championing education, and empowering the youth.

Through LEARN, she gave hope of a better future to many Lagos residents,” he added.

The governor concluded with prayers for continued health and happiness for the celebrant:

“On this landmark occasion of her Diamond Jubilee, I pray that God will continue to preserve and grant her perfect health and an abundance of joy to enable her to render more service to humanity.”

Dame Fashola is widely regarded as a quiet force behind some of the most meaningful social interventions during her husband’s administration.

Her work continues to inspire new generations of women leaders in Lagos State and beyond.
